At Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN), St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, curved perforated metal panels were used creatively to form a raised ceiling above a window area in a new student gathering center. Sheppard Case Architects, Inc. decided on an S-curved motif to echo the curvilinear form of the window benches below. S-curved 7/8” corrugated metal building panels, perforated and lined with acoustical batte, provided an economical solution.

Virginia Air & Space Center

At the Virginia Air & Space Center (Hampton, VA), metal decking is curved to conform with massive arched trusses, creating the look of a bird in flight. Metal was lower in weight and cost than concrete decking, while keeping the structure as light looking as possible. Curveline’s crimp-curving process allowed the use of lighter gauge decking, for a 20% savings in material costs.

West Point Junior High School

At the West Point Junior High School, curved perforated panels were used to create an acoustical treatment in the 2-1/2-story dining and common area that is the heart of the school. VCBO Architecture (Salt Lake City) chose perforated “U” panels to carry over a curved motif used on the exterior of the building. Curveline shaped the perforated wall paneling into two sections – the larger one convex, the smaller concave. The design successfully met both functional and aesthetic goals.
